Building a Fall Outfit
Welcome to September, friends. It’s been feeling anything but fall-like here in California lately, but the temperatures have finally cooled a bit, the kids are back in school or off to college, and perhaps you’re ready to take a little time to focus on yourself. We thought this month we would show you some of our latest fall arrivals to help get you excited about seasonal style changes. Keep reading to see how we build an outfit, piece by piece, to layer color and texture to create a chic wearable style.
Outfit #1-Nearly any outfit, from dressed down to elevated, can start with great fitting designer denim. This new pair of straight-legged jeans by Moussy is perfect, worn casually here, with a gorgeous cashmere sweater, waterproof lug-soled boots, an on-trend shirt jacket (shacket), and a beautiful embossed leather tote bag. Rigid denim mixed with soft cashmere in navy is a great start; adding the plaid jacket, suede boots, and textured bag creates not only a toasty warm combination that works all winter in Norcal but an outfit with visual interest.
Outfit #2-How do you give a potential work outfit some serious style? Start with a great-fitting pair of pants like this neutral pair from a newer brand we carry, Favorite Daughter. Add a classic button-up blouse in a statement-making print (Le Superbe) with some delicate, layered necklaces by Chan Luu. Set the outfit apart by adding patent leather boots and a gorgeous chocolate brown wool coat by Vince. The combination of the retro-inspired print blouse, shiny patent leather, and luxurious top coat gives the outfit individuality that will make you stand out stylishly in the workplace or out at dinner.
Outfit #3-Wear a lightweight, bias-cut skirt well into fall by adding some key pieces for warmth. Army green is one of the most prominent trending colors this season, and we love the combination of pink and green plaid in the blouse by Corey Lynn Calter mixed with the silky, solid green skirt. One of the most fun, practical trends we’ve seen in the last couple of years is pairing tennis shoes with everything from jeans to elegant day dresses and skirts. This pair by Italian brand Andia Fora pairs perfectly with the midi skirt and blouse. Add the bulky warmth of this beautiful double-breasted cardigan by L’AGENCE, and you’ll stay stylish and warm when the weather gets cool.
All three outfits stick to the same style principle. Mix shiny silk with warm knits, patent leather with luxurious boiled wool, or a solid sweater with print outerwear and textured accessories. Add visual interest to your look.
If you’ve styled an outfit in an exciting or unexpected way, send us a picture. We always enjoy seeing your style.
XO,
Ronnie and Evan
